N.E.D. (No Evidence of Disease) is an extraordinary new band, consisting entirely of musically talented gynecologic cancer surgeons, who have come together to play a mix of original alternative rock and folk-rock songs with the goal of raising awareness about women's cancer issues.
The band has teamed up with Motéma to record and promote a CD for release in September, 2009, to coincide with Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, and to help publicize the first annual Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Day and Race which takes place on November 8th, 2009 in Washington, D.C.

Rising star producer, Mario McNulty, who has worked with David Bowie, Linkin Park and other rock bands of note was engaged to produce N.E.D.'s self-titled CD, No Evidence of Disease, in association with Motéma artist KJ Denhert. The music which is now in the can is quite extraordinary, and soon will be availble to the publice. Even the rehearsals for this unique album attracted media attention. N.E.D. Bandmembers...
John Boggess, MD, guitar, vocals. Dr. Boggess is Associate Professor of Obstetrics &
Gynecology and Fellowship Program Director, Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the
University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He is a leading expert in robotic surgery in gynecologic oncology. Dr. Boggess received his MD from the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Medicine. Playing gigs with a band during medical school helped pay the rent. But as the youngest of seven, he learned to sing loudly at the tender age of five in a choir. Dr. Boggess is married and has two children.
Joanie Hope, MD, guitar, vocals. Dr. Hope is a Gynecologic Oncology Fellow at the New York University School of Medicine. She has a special interest in emerging technologies to promote early cancer detection. Dr. Hope made her music debut delivering singing telegrams in gorilla suits to help pay her Stanford University tuition. A local private detective then recruited her to serve singing subpoenas and to investigate various criminal and civil events. Dr. Hope moved to New York City for new musical venues such as subway platforms and hospital waiting rooms while attending medical school. She lives with her partner and four children.
Nimesh Nagarsheth, MD, drums, percussion. Dr. Nagarsheth is on faculty at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City and Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood, New Jersey. He is considered a leading expert in advanced laparoscopic surgery and in transfusion-free surgery in gynecologic oncology. Dr. Nagarsheth graduated from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine with honors. He started playing drums in elementary school and studied music through college. More recently, Dr. Nagarsheth has been active on the New York City music scene playing with a Beatles/Rolling Stones cover band, “Come Together.” Dr. Nagarsheth is single and lives in New York City.
William “Rusty” Robinson, MD, bass, harmonica. Dr. Robinson is the Director of Clinical Research at the Harrington Cancer Center in Amarillo, Texas. He is also the Dorothy Jane Rush Professor of Women’s Health and Oncology at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at Amarillo and Chairman of the Cancer Committee at Baptist/St. Anthony’s Hospital. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee at Memphis. Dr. Robinson has been playing guitar for since he was 12, playing semi-professionally in groups and bands since. His is married and has four children.
John Soper, MD, guitar. John hails from Iowa but now calls North Carolina home. He is the Hendricks Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Soper is recognized for his work in gestational trophoblastic disease and pelvic reconstructive surgery. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Dr. Soper comes from a family of musicians, and played violin as a child before switching to guitar and mandolin. He helps run a small music camp in the summer and plays in a folk/swing group. He is married and has three children.
Will Winter, MD, guitar. Will is an oncologist at Northwest Cancer Specialists in Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon. Until 2006, he was Director of Gynecology Tumor Board, Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Brooke Army Medical Center. He graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia. Dr. Winter has played guitar in bands throughout his life. He is married and has 2 children.
Production
Jana Herzen, owner and President, Motema Music. Motema, which means “Heart” in the Lingala language, promotes award-winning Jazz and World music. Jana also composes and performs her own music. Her debut album, “Soup’s On Fire” (Motema 2003), is an eclectic mix of inspiration from deep American roots and encounters with cultures from around the world. Jana is also a founder and producer for the Langston Hughes House in Harlem.
Mario McNulty, Producer. Mario has produced, recorded, and mixed music for some of the best-known names in music. Among his credits is work with Philip Glass, David Bowie, Keith Richards, Ziggy Marley, Rufus Wainwright, and Laurie Anderson. He is an accomplished drummer/percussionist. Mario is represented by Joe D’Ambrosio Management.
K.J. Denhert, Music Director and Talent Coach. K.J. is a singer, guitarist, and songwriter whose music falls in the Urban Folk and Jazz genres. K.J. performs more than 120 times per year, often with her band, NY Unit, always looking to reach new audiences and share her music. K.J. has recorded 7 albums to date, with “Another Year Gone By Live,” winning the 2006 Independent Music Award for Best Live Performance.
The N.E.D. Cancer Foundation - Explanation of LOGO:Pink for breast cancer, yellow is the symbolic color for hope, teal for gyn cancer, the other three colors are just complimentary, but there are six colors total, one for each band member.
