Motema Music, an award-winning jazz and world record label based in Harlem, New York, is named after the word for 'heart' in the African language, Lingala. Kokoro is the word for heart in Japanese. Kokoro to Kokoro concerts will feature Motéma artists performing in the beautiful Tenri Cultural Center on West 13th Street near 6th Avenue to raise funds to support the compassionate grass roots relief efforts being carried out in Northern Japan by the Tenrikyo Church. The church, whose primary philosophy is to promote happy living, understanding, harmony and community through meditative volunteerism, has been providing crucially needed water, food, shelter, and emotional support to thousands of displaced Japanese tsunami and earthquake victims since day one of the disaster.
