Musical Pointers - Review
Along the Silk Road
Tomoko Sugawara (kugo - angular harp)
with flute, bendir & darabukka
Motema MTM-31
A fully researched and superbly packaged rediscovery of an ancient instrument, with music for it back to Mesopotamia 1900 B.C. and new music composed from historical precedents.
The combination of musicological scholarship and well judged variety of music and its instrumentation (varied with flute and percussion) makes this a special production to enjoy at many levels. Sugawara is a super-sensitive player and the music is ideal for quiet, late night listening.
Buy it, but NOT as a download; the booklet is a labour of love and a model of how to do these things. Links to fuller reviews below.
