You could easily list the very solid Roni Ben-Hur among jazz's elite guitarists. His sound synthesizes the swing of Kenny Burrell and the melodic invention of Wes Montgomery, and on Keepin' it Open, Ben-Hur surrounds himself with top-notch players on an expansive range of warmly familiar tunes. His lyrical playing exhibits a rhythmic
suppleness that often eludes other guitarists. This attractive recording also features particularly good work from the young trumpeter, Jeremy Pelt. (May 15)
