2007-04-04 O's Place By D. Oscar Groomes - Performance Review
Roni Ben-Hur - Keepin’ It Open O's Notes: Guitarist Ben-Hur plays a wide variety of tunes here in cool arrangements including a couple of originals. Monk's "Think A-One" is followed by the burner "My Man Harris" then a rather mellow "Like a Lover" before they give us a southwestern twist on "Andaluza" and some bossa nova on the finale. Ben also let's his partners step out front. Santi Dibriano (b) has a great solo on "Back When". Jeremy Pelt (t) does a fine job throughout the set and notably on "Indian Summer". Lewis Nash (d), Ronnie Mathews (p) and Steve Kroon (perc) round out the band for a very balanced and entertaining session.
